How Asthma Affects Your Health Insurance Quotes
Monday, March 29th, 2010 by adminWhen looking for health insurance, many factors can come into play. More often than not, a health insurance quote is based on any pre-existing conditions a person may have. Some conditions like Asthma may influence whether or not a person can get health insurance coverage. Asthma is a chronic breathing condition that causes inflammation of the lungs. This inflammation can occur due to changes in weather, allergies, infections and exercise.
Health insurance costs are always on the rise. Because this is a condition for which there is no cure and it is almost always accompanied with lifetime medications, many insurance companies will set limitations or conditions on how much, if any, insurance a person can have. If you do not already have insurance, there may be a six month waiting period before you are eligible to get any coverage for the condition. Another possibility is that an insurance company can put a cap on how much they will pay for certain conditions like Asthma and Epilepsy or even people who have had cancer in the past.
When searching for a good health insurance company, do the research. Check for those that will accept pre-existing conditions without limitations. Most companies, however, will charge very hefty fees to cover you. Speak to an agent and ask as many questions as you can to make sure you are very clear on the coverage options and just how much and how long they will cover your condition. It would be disastrous to find out after a hospital stay that you had reached a limitation in coverage and they denied coverage after a major medical illness related to your Asthma.
Check more than one insurance company, as there may be more than one that can give you better coverage and possibly even cheaper fees. Don’t be fooled by cheaper fees though. Cheaper may mean less coverage or more limitations on how much coverage you will receive. There are many companies out there that just offer medical discounts and not health care coverage. You must understand the difference as it could mean thousands of dollars in coverage or a few hundred in discounts which could cost you more than you intended to pay. Health insurance companies that do cover conditions like Asthma, may have extremely high deductibles and co-pays, and will limit how many visits to the doctor a year you can have. So it is imperative that you understand the policy completely before purchasing. One last thing to remember, always go over your policy each year to make sure no changes have come into place and you will not get the same coverage you received the year before.
