Two Factors That Go Into Determining A Health Insurance Quote
Thursday, June 3rd, 2010 by adminHealth insurance policies change every year. Insurance companies can make changes that can affect whether or not a person can still qualify for quality insurance coverage. There are several healthcare quote factors that are taken into consideration when a company allows one to become eligible for benefits.
One factor in determining eligibility while getting a health insurance quote is family medical history. Many major illnesses can be genetically inclined such as cancer, diabetes, seizure disorders and asthma. Though they can be developed at any time without a family history, they can also be developed because there is a greater risk due to a family history. A quote will factor in the risks or likelihood of developing a major illness and will be price accordingly. Even though a person may not currently have any sign or symptoms of cancers, diabetes or seizure disorders, the insurance company will assess the risk of developing these conditions during the term of the policy.
Another one of the healthcare quote factors is lifestyle habits. The agent will ask questions regarding a person's personal health habits such as smoking, drinking, weight, and the kind of job one has. For example, if someone works around hazardous materials, there is a higher chance of getting cancer than if they worked in a school. How much smoking and drinking will affect a health insurance quote and even what kind of personal hobbies a person has. Overeating and bad food choices could lead to diabetes and some cancers. Smoking could lead to asthma and COPD. Drinking could lead to liver disease. Any of these can increase the risk of major illnesses and could determine the amount of premium a client would have to pay.
It is important to never let insurance coverage lapse. This is especially so if a person has a pre existing health condition and major illnesses in the family history. Once coverage lapses and these are discovered, the premiums could be high and the conditions not covered for a period of time. When getting quotes, make sure that the benefit program is understood thoroughly because people assume coverage and find out after the illness or surgery that there was not coverage for that particular illness. Each insurance company is different and they have the right to deny coverage for any reason. Each year a policy is renewed, make sure the illness that was being treated is covered in the policy for the upcoming year. It is a good idea to get quotes from several different companies if independent benefits are required. Since each company policy is different, the coverage is not the same for all of them.
