When searching for insurance, there is a term that comes up many don't truly understand. The term "Pre Existing Condition" can be the most misunderstood term when acquiring an insurance quote. This term basically means an illness or condition someone has before the new coverage or plan begins. How does this affect someone's coverage? The most important thing to consider is how it affects the insurance company that is writing the policy. Millions of dollars could be spent alone on just follow up care. This is why many insurance companies add an exclusion or disclaimer to their policies. Does this mean that there is no coverage available for those who fall in to this category? No! There is something called "multiple coverage" available and it will come at a higher price. These options usually make the policy holder cringe due to the terms involved.

When dealing with additional coverage, there is usually a stipulation associated with the policy that is special to only the pre existing condition. This specialized coverage or customized coverage is intended to help offset the costs which will be incurred during the policies term. This usually comes at a higher price, has limits, and a very high deductible. Due to the nature of the insurance business and having two or more policies, it is possible this can alter health insurance quotes. If a pre existing condition is not disclosed, the terms and conditions in the policy could give the insurance company the right to terminate coverage. This solely depends on "how" the policy is written. The clauses and disclaimers are meant to protect the assets and financial position of the insurance company. Remember, they are the ones taking all of the risk.

Another issue that can cause trouble is a term known as lapse in coverage. This is a period of time where there is no coverage at all. If a condition exists where there is currently no coverage, the health insurance quotes will be affected as well. The best way to prevent being denied coverage or having your condition excluded all together is to make sure there are no gaps between coverage. There are programs available that help when coverage is lost due to loss of employment. It is wise to take advantage of such programs immediately. Remember, this is a time sensitive situation. Many people will not honestly disclose that they don't have coverage to get a better premium, but insurance companies can and may check. The end results after are an increase in monthly premium and/or cancellation of the policy. This is at the sole discretion of the company that wrote the policy. In this case, honesty is the best policy.
