There are few things that could impose more fear upon oneself than entrusting his/her life, health, in the care of someone else. It can become even more frightful when the health coverage relies solely upon the Federal Government. Government regulation on health insurance is tightening. Their decisions have an extremely deep impact on our lives, our health, and may even impact our health insurance quotes and premiums. But how exactly will these changes to the healthcare system effect the average American citizen?

Millions of people were glued to their televisions on March 23rd of 2010. We all watched intently as President Obama signed "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act," an addition to our system of laws and regulations that became known as "The Patient's Bill of Rights" and "ObamaCare" just to name a couple. This bill represented an unknown.Though many were nervous about government regulations, examining these changes shows that health insurance quotes may actually be reduced as a result of this intervention.

Naturally, many of the new changes in health care will take some time. There are a few things that we can expect immediately: those include limiting the restrictions on the amount of benefits the insured is entitled to during a year or over a lifetime. In addition, insurance companies will no longer be able to limit care to adults and children who may have a pre-existing condition. Such restrictions will be eliminated altogether as of the year 2014.

Expanding preventative services is also an objective of the bill. In the future insurance companies will be required to cover immunizations and other preventative measures. The theory behind this being that it is cheaper to keep healthy citizens healthy rather than have them develop diseases because they can't afford period preventative care. To further keep the population healthy as it ages, insurance companies will be required to allow parents to keep their children on a policy up to the age of 26.

Finally, government regulations will make the process of obtaining health insurance a universal process. Having similar guidelines for all companies will make it easier for consumers to comparison shop. There are also provisions to help navigate the appeals process in the event a health insurance claim is rejected.

These regulations and reforms have been enacted with the intention of helping us. The new law should have very little effect on health insurance quotes and premiums. Having a nation of healthy citizens will only help to reduce costs to insurance companies as fewer as fewer people seek treatment for preventable diseases.
