The days of searching for health insurance quotes from competing insurance companies could be coming to an end. While many are debating the specifics of the new health care bill, little is said about the potential healthcare drawbacks created by the bill. Those behind the bill may have the best intentions, but there are obvious and serious drawbacks to handing our healthcare system over to the government completely.

Lower quality care – Privately run health insurance companies and health care organizations are motivated to provide quality in their health care services, at the moment. This is a product of the free market and capitalism. If you think healthcare needs reform now, wait until the free market is taken from it. You will no longer need to search for your own health insurance quotes, because the government will have the monopoly on healthcare.

Selective care – The government will now have all of the power to decide what procedures an individual can have. This will no longer be a decision left for the patient and their physician. Instead, bureaucrats will decide which procedures an individual is eligible for based on their age and the severity of their condition.

Localized selection – The new reform bill includes nonsensical regulations that prohibit purchasing insurance from companies that reside across your state line. That means even less competition for your business. You will no longer be able to get national health insurance quotes, only local quotes – from those insurance companies that reside inside of your state lines.

Fewer options – Obama's health insurance reform will level the playing field in healthcare options. This might seem like a good thing at first, but look more carefully. Many who earn more, and would prefer to pay more for better care, will not have that option. Likewise, those of us who become frustrated with the new government owned healthcare will have no other option.

Exemptions – Although the reform bill requires members of Congress and their committees to purchase healthcare through the new state-run exchanges that it creates, certain members of Congress and various other political leaders will be exempt from the laws that they have created. If there are no healthcare drawbacks with the new reform bill, then why are our political leaders issuing exemptions to themselves?

Although health insurance quotes are likely to rise drastically in the future, a complete healthcare reform could still be years away. Our current healthcare system and health insurance options are the envy of the world. Why would we want to change this? Free trade and capitalism work, and they are part of what makes this country so great.
