Staying healthy is all about choices. It's the choice to eat right, it's the choice to stay up on your medical visits, and it's a choice to decide to get into the gym and exercise. When it comes to health insurance it is just as much about choices too. There are hundreds of health plans out there all with varying degrees of care and compensation so knowing what new health insurance coverage is right for you isn't always easy and by that regard knowing when to cancel a health plan is just as difficult a decision as deciding which one to get. So how do you know when to cancel health insurance?

The first thing you need to consider, and this is as important as anything is are you getting the services covered you need? Many people think that all health insurance is the same but in fact you'd be surprised how many plans don't cover more than routine check-ups. If you find that you are having to spend considerable money on specialist care or you have to spend a lot of money on doctors visits then you might want to cancel health insurance in favor of another plan.

Some health insurances are linked with certain hospitals and others are not. This means that if you have a doctor that you like and he is linked to a hospital that is close to your home, it may not be covered under your insurance to see that doctor meaning the cost to go get treatment and care can be quite costly. If this is the case then you might be better off with new health insurance coverage. Being comfortable with your doctor is everything and you shouldn't have to sacrifice that in the name of health insurance.

If you find that your co-insurance or deductibles are too high than you might want to consider switching. Even though health care is the most important thing it doesn't mean you should go broke trying to live healthy. If you find that you are paying $500 for your deductible but there may be another insurance out there that is only charging $250 for a deductible. This is more than enough reason to make the switch.

But before you make the switch you should make certain that you have done your homework and you can be confident that the new insurance you are on is the better insurance for you. Also don't cancel your existing insurance until you have a new insurance in place. The last thing you want is an accident and no coverage. But insurance is your decision.
