It is a fact that many people who obtain health insurance, usually through their employers, simply assume that everything is covered by their plan. A lot of the times, people do not take the time to go through all of their paperwork and plan details to find out exactly what is covered and what is not, as well as the costs for procedures and doctor's visits. This can be detrimental to a person who goes to the doctor, is told by their physician that they must get Xrays done to make sure everything is fine, and then is informed that their plan doesn't cover it. Most health insurance plans do cover basic Xrays, but it is not a good idea to simply assume it is part of your particular group plan.

The reason it is necessary to review your specific policy regarding Xrays is because, as many know, there are many different levels and types of health insurance plans out there. If your employer offers the most comprehensive health insurance plans that include almost everything and anything, then you're pretty sure to get Xrays as part of the package. However, most employers will not do this because it is not a financially good decision. This is especially true with employees who like to have options and for employers who cannot afford to pitch in a large amount for insurance. As such, employers tend to pick health plans that are reasonably priced, that have the coverage that will most likely be used and that employees want or ask for.

The best method of finding out if your health plan covers Xrays is by first speaking with your HR department or your health insurance agent or representative. Any of these people will be able to answer any of the questions you may have regarding the plan and what is covered. Make sure to mention Xrays because this is something that sometimes falls through the cracks with plans. They are covered by some plans fully, and only partially by others. It's imperative that you ask about when you're allowed to get Xrays and if you need to be referred by a doctor before getting them done. Although this is usually the case, it is not the same for every plan.

If you don't have health insurance and are thinking about getting it for you and/or your family, Xrays are a very important to your plan. Doing an online search for health insurance plans can yield an array of different agencies and plan types. Look through these to see if you can find a plan that includes Xrays, or at least covers them partially. It's an overlooked procedure, but important nonetheless.
