New health care reform laws are being hammered out in Congress, and several of their stipulations are to be rolled out in the next year. Of those, one of the most important is the creation of government-funded health insurance pools that will assist those with low income in finding reasonable health insurance quotes.

When the law itself is fully implemented in 2016, it will require all Americans to carry valid health insurance or risk penalties including a fine or potential jail time. In order to minimize the number of Americans that will be left without health care, the government has begun to take steps to offer an alternative to typical private health care. In some cases, this is being done in partnership with a private insurance firm, but when the bill ultimately passes, it will be the government that solely manages this federal health care plan. In addition to affecting health insurance quotes in general, this law is expected to have a particular impact on those of low income.

The first intended effect of the new health care laws and the creation of a federal health care option for all Americans is to limit the number of people with low income who also have no health insurance. By offering basic care at a low price, this federal option is intended to give those with low incomes access to a viable system of health care. This level of health care will offer very few options and will cover only the very basic needs of those who use it. Once they are able to earn enough, the government would encourage them to seek a private insurer with more robust options.

An unintended effect of the new bill may be to seriously skew the cost of private insurance quotes. At this time, there are several schools of thought on the matter - with some experts arguing that an affordable option will force private companies to lower rates to stay competitive, and some contending that their rates will rise as they see a premium market available for the taking. For those of low income, it will likely mean that government insurance is their only option, at least for their first few years of coverage. The concern there lies in the potential for long wait times, slow service, and doctors that are not as proficient as those hired by the private sector.

Overall, the new legislation should make it easier for those with low income to find health insurance quotes, mostly likely ones provided by the government. Though the care may not be as substantial as that covered by private insurers, it should assist in keeping those with all levels of income in America healthy.
