It is important to understand what state and federal laws offer that affect health care for women. While the federal government is responsible for what the minimums that each state must cover as well as what insurance companies must provide, it is the state health insurance law that provides the most to women.

There are many states, such as Washington, that features contraception methods to women free of charge or at a significantly reduced cost. These costs can be quite expensive, which would increase the cost of health care for women. While many people think that it's the insurance companies dictating healthcare, it all comes down to what the federal and state governments are offering based upon the various laws that they have in place.
