Healthcare in the United States has evolved several times over its history, going from public options to semi-private to entirely private and back again. In the last couple of decades, consumers saw the steady rise of health insurance costs with coverage remaining the same and in some cases diminishing. Premiums were getting to the point where many Americans struggled to obtain a health insurance policy for themselves and/or their family. However, United States healthcare is about to take a big step forward and once again evolve. President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in March of 2010 which ultimately lowers health insurance quotes for all Americans. The ACA will drastically affect coverage and costs to everyone in the United States.

For a while, health insurance quotes were quite high while coverage remained the same or was even lower in some instances. Now that the Affordable Care Act has been signed into law, all of that changes. The cost to insure each American was rising at an astronomical rate which is why health insurance costs continued to rise the way they did. Add to that the fact that new medicines and medical equipment have been developed, as well as new illnesses and diseases cropping up, and one can see why the high costs in the healthcare industry occurred. The United States healthcare industry responded by raising prices on all consumers while not increasing their coverage. This made it more difficult for people to obtain health insurance and to maintain their health.

One of the facets of the ACA that will help drive prices for health insurance plans back down is the development of Affordable Insurance Exchanges. These are systems in which physicians and insurance providers work together to provide Americans with the medical assistance they need. By forming these exchanges, the costs for health insurance should become more affordable since many physicians will be on the same network. Providers will be able to offer more options at less cost.

Physicians will also be encouraged, through government incentives, to provide free preventative care. This is a great benefit for individuals and families alike because no matter if you have health insurance or not, preventative care is covered. This will also help drive insurance prices down because it's just one less thing to be covered by the provider.

The Affordable Care Act also makes it possible for consumers and small businesses to have more options when shopping for and obtaining health insurance. The government-sponsored initiative will allow consumers and small businesses to pick and choose where they want to be covered, and this means lower costs in the long run.
