How Some Americans Could Escape The AFA Health Insurance Mandate
Friday, August 12th, 2011 by adminOne of the main things that President Obama is trying to push is an AFA mandate as part of his Affordable Care Act that was passed in 2010. It is the belief that a mandate would lower insurance premiums across the board because hospitals and insurance companies would not suffer from treating patients that do not have insurance - the primary reason that premiums continue to increase each year. The health insurance mandate, however, may allow some Americans to escape.
There is a lot of talk by several states that the AFA mandate is completely unconstitutional. Governors, senators and representatives are arguing that it is illegal to make an American pay for health insurance if they do not want to. However, there are equal supporters, making it a very highly volatile topic in government right now.
It is possible for some Americans to escape the health insurance mandate due to the support that they are already getting from the US government. This includes those on Medicare and Medicaid, which have qualified due to low incomes, old age or disability. Each of these individuals may be able to avoid being required to get the health insurance because they already have one of sorts.
Those Americans who already have health insurance from their employer or who have an individual plan will also not be impacted by the mandate because they have already met the requirements. It is the rest of the Americans who will be forced to purchase policies. Insurance companies may be able to name their price, unless limits are set, simply because the American public won't have any recourse.
Once everyone does have medical insurance, there will be no more requirements for hospitals to treat people that don't have insurance. Everyone will have it and therefore costs will go down. As costs go down, the health insurance rates are anticipated to drop - but that's only assumed at this point in time.
Because of the assumptions, states are arguing to be left out of the mandate. If the US government allows some states to avoid the mandate, it may be another opportunity for some Americans to escape the requirement of purchasing health insurance. This means that even more people would be allowed to continue at their healthcare coverage (or lack thereof) at their own discretion, based upon where they reside.
For others, it looks like they simply won't be able to escape the health insurance mandate. For those who are fearful of this, they must simply wait to see if it passes or if it is pushed past the 2012 election date so that another candidate can take it off of the table completely.
