Celtic

The Celtic health insurance company was originally formed in 1978 as a holding company and was located in the city of Chicago. That same year, a subsidiary of the company began operations as health insurance policy brokers and as a reinsurance company for health and life insurance. In 2008, the Celtic health insurance company merged with Centene Corporation but has retained its original name.

Today, Celtic offers insurance products to health insurance consumers in 33 of the 50 states. People who do not have insurance presently and wish to inquire about Celtic's plans should choose their state of residence under the Individual Health Plans tab. This will bring up the details for all health insurance plans that are available in that particular state.

Celtic is a health insurance policy provider to students, people in between jobs, those who are part-time or self-employed or find themselves in any number of situations where health insurance is not provided through an employer. It does not provide health plans for employers or other large groups.

There are five basic health plans available through the Celtic health insurance company. The first is the economic basic health insurance plan, which covers essential medical services only.

The next plan is the comprehensive plan which is targeted at breadwinners of families who may be freelancers or self-employed. It offers many additional features that typical families need.

The third plan offering is the high deductible plan. With this coverage, there is a large deductible that must be paid before the plan pays any benefits. The rates are lower than other types of plans, which make it an attractive option for health consumers who are on a strict budget. It can also be coordinated with a Health Savings Account to save pre-tax dollars to meet the high deductibles.

The short-term medical plan is the fourth type that is offered by Celtic. This plan is intended to fill in gaps where people may find themselves temporarily uninsured. A primary example of the need for short-term medical insurance is a person who begins a new job and is not eligible for the company medical plan for the first 90 days.

The fifth and final type of health insurance plan consumers can find at Celtic is student health insurance. This plan covers students while they are actively pursuing post-secondary education and the period of time between graduation and finding the first job of his or her career that has medical insurance available.

For customers who need more detailed information about Celtic's various plans, a Learning Center is available on the company website. This will provide everything the healthcare consumer needs in order to make an informed decision about medical insurance.
