ConnectiCare

ConnectiCare Health Plans was established in 1981 and serves healthcare consumers in Connecticut and western Massachusetts. In its 30 year history, ConnectiCare has ranked as high as the fifth best health insurance plan in America by both the US News and World Report and the National Council of Quality Assurance (NCQA).

For those persons who are already members of ConnectiCare Health Plans, there are several resources located on the company's website aimed at helping members improve their health. These resources range from preventive care to suggestions for changing lifestyles to tips on how to manage chronic conditions, such as diabetes and asthma.

The website offers detailed plan information for consumers who are in the process of deciding on a health insurance plan that will best meet the needs of them and their families. As with most health insurance carriers, ConnectiCare offers an HMO Open Access Plan, a Point of Service (POS) Open Access Plan and a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).

There are additional plan offerings designed with cost savings in mind. These plans include high deductible HMO and POS Plans. In exchange for the consumer agreeing to a plan that does not pay any benefits until a high deductible has been me, these plans offer substantially lower premiums. This deductible is significantly higher than it would be with a standard health insurance plan.

When consumers who are insured with ConnectiCare sign up for the company's services, they will receive access to the website in order to perform administrative functions and take advantage of the resources previously mentioned. Besides the standard account maintenance requests, like change of address or printing off a new identification card, members can also check on the status of their claims at any stage of the claim process. Once the claim has completed processing, members can access an online Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or request that one be mailed.

In this day and age when consumers are looking to save on health care, ConnectiCare provides resources to its members to be able to do just that. On its website, ConnectiCare offers a Treatment Cost Estimator Tool that allows its members to determine their portion of expenses before choosing to undergo elective and/or physician recommended procedures. This tool is paired with an Average Cost of Care document that gives healthcare consumers the ability to see what typical procedures cost before insurance is applied. In this way, the healthcare consumer and the insurance company are sharing in the responsibility to reduce overall healthcare costs.

The ConnectiCare Health Plan is currently available to employer groups, individuals, families and as a supplement to Medicare for senior citizens.
